Foods That Can Help You Beat Stress

Stress can send anyone looking for sweets or fatty snacks, and it often has nothing to actually do with willpower. Carbohydrates can stimulate an especially powerful release of hormones that relieve stress.

Leigh Gibson, PhD and senior research fellow at the University College London studies the link between stress and food. His current research is concerned with influences on appetite and food choice, and their interaction with stress, health, and cognitive and emotional well-being. He has found there are specific foods that can help you during stressful times that are healthy for you overtime. His research recommends incorporating this following list of foods into your daily meals on a regular basis:

- Fresh fruit
- Tomato soup
- Oatmeal
- Whole wheat toast with fruit based jams
- Multi grain
waffles with light or natural syrup
- Sweet potato or baked potato
- Lightly sweetened whole grain cereals
