Happy Leap Day everybody! It’s been estimated that about five million individuals or less than 0.1% of the world’s 8 billion people have a birthday on Leap Year. Given these rare odds, let’s wish anyone celebrating their birthday on this Leap Day heaps of fun. Similar to the golden opportunity of having a birthday land on a Leap Year, I am delighted to share that I finished a book project that has been years in the making. There are other descriptions that could be included about the writing and publishing process. These range from amped to nervously shy and exhilarated to fatigued. Encircle all of these into a big sigh of relief, and I am truly grateful. The Dog God Has Spoken is the title of the book that I wrote and designed as a daily reader. As a lover of the dog-God palindrome, I was certain that I wanted to write from the Dog God’s voice. This led me to a explore a range of topics. Like many good expeditions, the more I researched the more I discovered. It was pretty surprising as I dug into history, science, cultural differences, myths, the developmental phases of dogs, and many other diverse yet related topics. I also spent a great deal of time researching the new science surrounding brain health for both humans and dogs. It was a wonderful experience to return to my roots and wear a variety of hats as a researcher, student, scientist, teacher, writer, and artist.
I wrote this book with a passion filled heart that kept the momentum to finish this project. I truly believe the love of my partner, Michael, my family, friends, and colleagues have cheered me on through this process. I am grateful to everyone who supported me.
